Zoo outing

hello... yup... i dun mind jol's plan... sounds good... just to note, after 1st service we have free breakfast provided rite? well, maybe we could have a heavy breakfast in church so that we could go earlier to the zoo and have a later lunch. just to confirm, do we have to bring food for lunch? are we having dinner together? if wanna have light dinner, my friends said that there's this dessert stall in bugis that sells great dessert. =) price ranging from 1.80-3.50 like that.

of coz it's tragic that our great cell leader is unable to join us [insert sad smiley (has anyway ever noticed the ironic oxymoron of SAD SMILEys??)],but it's alright,we'll try and keep her close to heart.

anyways,being particularly particular about where we'll be heading,i decided to share my views about the choice of location.
firstly: WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY $15 JUST TO GET INTO A LOCATION TO SEE ANIMALS?!!!
I CAN STEP INTO A PET SHOP FOR FREE AND GET THE SIMILAR SATISFACTION OF SEEING ANIMALS [which is nil],SMELL THEIR MUCH TO BE DESIRED ODOURS AND BETTER YET-HAVE THE JOY OF BEING IN AN AIR CONDITIONED AREA.
but of coz,i do understand that not every thing is free in the world and not everyone is as economical [aka cheapskate] as me.

so now we move on to the issue of getting there.
from personal experience,sitting a train ride from toa payoh to far off choa chu kang is an extremely good experience ..
if u're a tourist.
u get to see everything about singapore-the HDB,the trees,the old factories,the horse racing course,the heartlands,the schools and even a reservoir.
in other words,the journey takes 8973465879623482369 milleniums.
taking the train from bedok and then changing at jurong east to cck is sama-sama.of coz u can also take 67 all the way to cck interchange,but i guarantee you that ur butt is bound to rot.
nevertheless,since we'll all be coming from church which is located in BEDOK and not angmokio,we should opt for the scenic train route.

since we'll be paying a grand total of $90 [i calculated with the help of me trusty calculator],i suggest we try to catch all the FREE shows possible.make the money worth it.
[not like we dun get to see such shows in church when the guys start doing weird stuff]
as for taking pictures at the expense of seeing $12 fly away,why not use my handy camera at the basic cost fee of a ben&jerry's ice cream cone with 2 scoops of yummy ice cream?we can do so infront of their enclosure [i assume they will be in one when not in the photo shoot time],and maricar with her superb digital imaging skills can magic away the fence and put ah meng's hairy arms around jac.
just a cheaper suggestion.

regarding feeding time for US hungry babes,i suggest we each contribute some food items.[remainders can be tossed into the bins coz i'm sure the animals eat better quality food than us seeing how much we have to pay!!!]
i'm sure my mum can whip up some food too with a lil pacifying from me.
so let's all help jac by offering lil bits of food from each of us and telling her by friday alrights?
those who can't bring anything can help carry the food.
remember: the greater serve the lesser.=D

ok now we move on to the post-zoo activity.
giraffe is quite a delightful place to be in if u're like..with your other half.
being a rather mod chic bar-cum-restaurant located right smack in town area opposite the Istana,i'm pretty sure they won't be too please to see a buncha sweaty babes smelling like a buncha animals entering such a higher end place.

the price of the food is kinda..ex.it costs about the same as our zoo ticket to eat a decent meal here.nevertheless,the reviews abt the place,service and food is rather good.
but seriously,after an entire day in the sun with smelly animals and smellier people,i think we'll be contented just to find a decent air-conditioned place to fill our stomachs without having to suffer evil stares from the people around us.

which brings me to the 2nd location.

yes-STARBUCKS.
i mean,where else can u find great coffee with fantastic atmosphere and comfy couches?!!
no need to elaborate;
this place just ROCKS!
[no biasness here]

ok i suppose gloria jeans coffee at raffles city can come in a close 2nd to starbucks.

however it's convenient central location also means that the crowd tends to be overwhelming.
the seating capacity of this outlet is rather limited,so i dun think we'll be able to get seats unless we're uber blessed.
[as for salvador dali's artworks,just go look and drool at the pics to be posted up in my blog by year's end =D ]

for now,we'll give clarke quay a miss coz wells,the place is a madhouse on sundays.

next up would be minds cafe.
it's kinda like settler's cafe but i think it's cheaper.
i think.
anyway,they have some special package for 6 players.
Mind Sixer Package at $48/- for 6 person for 2 hours of boardgames ,6 drinks of YOUR CHOICE , 2 snacks and 1 tidbits of YOUR CHOICE.
yeah as u can see,very democratic.everything's YOUR choice.PAP should learn from them.

thai express is relatively more affordable,satisfactory in terms of taste if u aren't picky like me,and can be found in quite a few locations actually [siglap,raffles city,bugis,etc..],though if we go to the esplanade one we can also check out the FREE children's day performances available there.of coz that means we'll have to put up with overexcited kids.*grimaces*
hopefully our stench will be able to keep them 1km radius away from us,then we can enjoy the performance all to ourselves,provided the performers can tahan us.

village is a total rip off from marche from the food right down to the cows.
the prices seem to wanna imitate marche's too.
the food's so-so only,nothing compared to its better counterpart.so i dun think we shld go to this place,i mean,if we wanna pay that price,might as well go to the one that serves it more authentically rite?

ok here goes

the entrance fees: 15 bucks excluding tram rides and other means of transport ard the zoo so we'll be mostly walking around

getting there: there's two ways - frm ang mo kio mrt station take bus 138
OR frm choa chu kang mrt station take 927
i dunno which one's nearer to the zoo though

“Wonders of the Wild” aims to educate visitors about wildlife and conservation in an entertaining manner.

The show gives you an insight into the daily happenings in a typical elephant logging camp and how these intelligent giants work together with their human partners

however, the site states "You can purchase food on-site to feed animals" so means we have to buy the food to feed them.. waste of money??

rides: unlimited tram rides round the zoo will be 5 bucks and this is inclusive of the choo choo train *LOL

animal photography: ok this is fun. let's take a photo with one of the animals!!
it'll be 12 bucks for our whole group.. pls decide between the sea lion (11.00am - 11.15am , 2.00pm - 2.15pm), for orang utans there's two places, in front of the exhibit (11.30am – 12.00pm, 2.30pm – 3.00pm ) and the entrance area (1.20pm – 1.50pm), snake (2.30pm – 3.30pm), and elephants we only can take the photo if we're taking the rides
by the way, for 12 bucks, we'll be getting a 6R picture encased in a custom-made photo frame.
All proceeds go to our “Wildlife Conservation Singapore Fund’.

tt's all about the zoo folks! by the way, the zoo closes at 6.00pm
shall we leave at about 5 or stay all the way till the zoo closes?

it started off perfectly..
until the birthday song was sung enthusiastically by our ever vocally strong cell intern maricar who also showed just how bilingual she was as the song blended into the chinese version.of coz she wasn't alone in singing it as pretty soon,jes and shi hui joined her in one chorus.
the otherwise happy occasion was marred by an extremely guilty jac who picked up her hp in the midst of the song while the ever watchful camera person caught her on film in great disapproval..
tsktsk.

the usual standard procedure of making the 3-relate-2 wishes..

was soon followed by the equally usual procedure of receiving a gift bought from her very own buddy on behalf of the cg..

which was unfortunately,viewed with great suspicion..

but soon a pleasantly surprised smile was plastered on the pretty make-up face of the birthday gal..

sadly,jac just had to spoil it for a moment by 'ahm-chioing' [laughin quietly to oneself in hokkien] about maricar's supposedly 'bad taste' in choosing such a present while her extremely appreciative sweet buddy brushed it off..

actually jac just really wanted it too..

evidently,jac's apparent bid to make sheila give up her bday present was foiled and so she's left to pout while the buddy looks on worriedly..

of coz all done on the pretext of 'helping' sheila to don it..

the alluring call of a simple mini choc cake adorned with wad look like a gleeful yellow dolphin beckoned.the lit candle just screaming to be blown.

of coz while the main star was making her wishes,2 clowns at the back tried to be a part of the 'IT' photo of the moment.unfortunately,they remained what they were-clowns.though beautiful ones at that.haha.

the time came for the winds hailing from the cherry lips of the new eighteen-year-old to lick the flame,while her truly ravenous shirt looked prepared to devour the helpless cake in its entirety.

the usual round of snapshot moments occurred,and as usual,the detesters-of-cameras-with-flash overpowered the meek easy-going ones,and so a horrible no flash picture resulted;much to the delight of the oppressors but not the oppressed.

you know how they say- 'you learn something new everyday'? well,jac decided to learn something new that fateful day.she decided to finally learn how to,get this,
-light a matchstick-
yes-and after many pitiful matchsticks perished in her unrelenting hands,with a few attempting to satisfy her desire by offering a few promising sparks,they all eventually gave up and sparked out. until...

and so she finally did it...
much to the relieve of the other surviving matchsticks.

in our quest for our next haunt,where else to head to but the ever wonderfully entertaining Settler's Cafe!as you can see,the katong branch is truly a pretty place that's rather cosy too.though the air conditioning was a tad to cold,leaving us to wonder if we were in the arctic branch instead.

while some engaged in more challenging activities like some pirated but more fun version of uno-stacko.

of coz,losers were not spared the ordeal of forfeits.much acclaim and kudos must go to the ever gutsy sheila for imitating the job of a traffic warden,directing 'traffic' in the centre of the cafe while clueless gamers looked on.

since katong's settler's cafe had never been graced upon by such a brilliant star as -mua-,a complimentary drink on the house was served to the birthday babe,who happily slurped down the tangy concoction with great satisfaction.

"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." this verse realli spoke to me a lot during my promos... so lets commit everything to him and to see his hands working in our lives... well well,long time since anybody updated.

still recall those times before west k when we would always whine n groan n complain in room 30 abt the preparations leading up to our mission trip,and of coz,the impending o levels then as well.then recall once more the preparations leading up to our memory quiz,haha...how we spent many late nights at the various fast food joints around bedok planning n discussing the whole thing thru from start to end.how we were all so exhausted n it was only reliance on God's never failing presence n jes' encouragement that got us through wad we many a time wanted to give up.

yet,we can stand tall now in the present n look back with pride at our accomplishments-braving the harsh conditions at west k,surviving thru o's,having a successful run of the memory quiz.why?coz All Glory Goes to GOD!!!our Heavenly Father who has never failed us.

thank you LORD!!!

but even as we rest for the time being,we should not do so on our laurels.life's not easy,but God will see us through all dificulties.so just wanna encourage you all to GO FOR THIS YEAR'S WEST K MISSION TRIP!!!some ppl say tt 'doing something once will always make the second time easier',but it's not true.even as the harsh conditions await us,even as we perceive ourselves unable and unwilling to put ourselves through such 'torture',let us not look at our surroundings with an inward perspective,but just think about how we'll be serving God and bringing His love and warmth to the many people whose lives we'll be touching in one way or another.we did so last year,and knowing that God will definitely be with us always n will go with us,we can definitely do so once more again this year.let us not give up even before the battle has begun.

It has indeed been a long time since we started out as peace cell. Still remember the first time i met you guys and we weren't still very close. We were still wearing shorts to service. Haha. Our cell is really so assorted, just like what our cell leader like. Hee. All of us came from super different family background with different family problems. But we still manage to blend into one another's lives. This is only something the Lord can do.

We have also been through thick and thin as a cell, growing together and carrying each other's burden. I believe we have grown in our own ways and have a special place in peace cell, like what jol said). Really would be so sad when anyone of us get married and leave the church. So, find someone who belongs to BBTC k? haha. Pray that we may continue to be sis-in-christ.

after today's cell,just struck me how much we've all grown up together.most of us have been together thru thick and thin,the brunt of time,through rain,sun,tears,laughter,mad moments n fun.through kindergarten,primary,secondary n now tertiary.from kfc to ymc3.how much we've changed over the years...

from innocent sec 1's...

to funky sec 2's...

to babelicious sec 3's...

to psychedelic sec 4's...

to many more fantastic years to come...=)

wow...looking back at those fantastic years...just makes me ponder n realise how much u guys have come to be such a big important part of my life.it just wouldn't be the same without peace cell.really thank God for letting us cross paths...just wanna let u all know that whenever u all may feel how small n insignificant n unimportant [which u all ain't!!!], there'll always be someone out there who truly appreciates u for simply being a part of her life - me!=)

Persecuted

Hey peeps. Just some updates about my life. Life has become tougher with my relatives. They are persecuting me everyday asking me not to get baptize so that i can continue giving offering to my dad. I have expressed my views to my bro that i won't offer any joss sticks to my dad. At first he was quite displeased but nowadays ha din say much even when i dun. thank god for that. Also, my relatives are like telling me not to go church and stuff like you still have to give tithes to church. so pls pray for me that i'll continue to stand firm my faith and wisdom to know how to handle this kind of situation. Also a tesimony to share.

As i was doing QT, the scripture reading is 1 peter 3:13-17.
13Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." 15But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
These verses really spoke to me of the things i'm facing eps v15- but do this with gentleness asn respect. i think this is something i must be sensitive about to be a good testimony to them.

So, continue to pray for me.

Anyway, i have a testimony to share that GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS!!! haha. eweek has given me a chance to experience God in a different way. thought that there would be no oikos and was pretty discouraged BUT God provided. =) yea, many times we get too focused on other stuff that we fail to realise God doesnt want a perfect program but an opportunity to draw nearer to us and work through us to do His assignments.

next up is the scripture memory challenge thing we are organising. LOL. lets pray that through this we can also help the YMC3 ppl as well as experience God.

we bought total of 13 items, spending a substantial amount... it'll be bread on our menu for 1++ month..great for my dieting...

L.A.P.D was super fun n meaningful for both shi hui n i,we got to know more ppl better!!next year we really should all take part together,though i know tt might be difficult coz of A's.but well,we'll leave tt up to God! :)

Shi Zi Lu Kou was quite fun too!i mean,wad other game involves pigging on food n exercising at the same time?!!really glad that this was one rare event which we took part together almost as an entire cell.thanks Maricar for co-organising it n making life difficult for us all.remerber wad they say- do unto others wad u want them do unto u...u'll get ur chance to showcase ur 'talents'.

hi gals... please continue to pray for me as i continue to pick myself up from where i left... i'm trying to built up my relationship with god once again so pray for time to do qt and for god to speak and for me to listen and obey... i'm actually also taking a break now from faithful-nest so won't bo gg for their cell... during this time i'll be praying if i should continue taking them or should i build my relationship first... please pray with me... i'll have to 'give' jes an ans after ym camp so pray that god will speak super clearly to me by then... also pray that i won't be 'lonely' during the camp cos jol may not be there too... hmm... also my result for the leo club, really hope to be in the board of director... guess that's all...

just to update you guys. thursday, 12/5/2005, LeAnne officially starts work @ Nike, Bugis Outlet =) so may not hav much time to come back as often. cos i've seen my schedule. its so tight! i can almost flip! i'm working like a FULL-TIMER instead of a part-time applicant! gees* come visit me if you guys can // do drop by! =D hehe! i'll try to come back as often as i can. do update me bout how things are going. and! if there are any special events! i'll try my best to come :)
